The Beaverton Black Parent Union's Sankofa Sessions for Mental Wellness is a thoughtfully curated series of workshops aimed at promoting mental health and emotional well-being within the Black community. The name "Sankofa," derived from the Akan language, meaning "to go back and fetch it," symbolizes the program’s focus on returning to and embracing our cultural roots to achieve mental wellness.

These sessions provide a comprehensive approach to mental health by offering expert-led discussions, interactive workshops, and practical tools tailored to the unique needs and experiences of Black individuals and families. Topics covered include stress management, coping strategies, and the importance of mental health self-care. Additionally, the sessions create a safe and supportive space where participants can share their experiences, build community, and seek guidance without judgment.

By integrating cultural sensitivity with evidence-based practices, the Sankofa Sessions aim to address the specific mental health challenges faced by the Black community while fostering resilience and empowerment. Participants leave with a deeper understanding of mental wellness, strengthened coping skills, and a renewed sense of connection to their cultural heritage.
